Our origins began in 1695 – trading across 5 centuries
The Tiffin family business began with the development of a successful treatment for eliminating bed bugs, establishing a specialist service that would continue through generations. Eco Tiffin’s own history traces the business back to 1695.
By the early nineteenth century, the Tiffin family had become recognised as bug destroyers to the Royal Household, with contemporary records and newspaper advertising documenting its specialist work for His Majesty and the Royal Family.
Tiffin expanded its expertise into woodworm, dry rot and timber treatment, becoming an early advocate of issuing guarantees to provide clients with greater confidence in the work undertaken.
As the business continued to grow, Tiffin moved its operations from Marylebone to Islington, providing a new base from which to serve properties across London and the surrounding areas.
New offices were opened in Watford, Exeter and Lymington, extending the company’s reach and allowing its specialist property services to support clients across a much wider area.
Tiffin developed a high-profile portfolio of public and commercial work, supporting organisations including police services, the NHS, local authorities and banks with property treatment, maintenance and specialist building requirements.
The business began studying thermal imaging and energy conservation, combining its long-standing understanding of buildings with technology capable of identifying heat loss, cold bridging, moisture and hidden defects. Eco Tiffin now uses thermography as part of its approach to property assessment and retrofit planning.
The company was incorporated as Eco Tiffin Limited, marking a renewed focus on sustainable refurbishment, retrofit, energy-saving improvements and damp remediation in domestic properties. This brought ecological building principles together with generations of practical building knowledge.
AirDrain was developed in response to recurring dampness and cold bridging observed at ground-floor wall junctions, particularly in older and heritage properties. The patented system encourages the natural evaporation of moisture before it penetrates the masonry, helping tackle the cause rather than simply treating the visible symptoms.
